So Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is in hot water because her husband defied the lockdown rules by putting their boat in the water.

What? She's a Democrat. According to some folks on here, it's only Republicans and Trump supporters who do corruption and dishonesty.

He should be arrested. The virus is everywhere. It infests the Great Lakes. We should build a wall around them.

Should she be in hot water because her old man went off the reservation? It’s not like he’s out grabbing pu—ies or paying off porn stars. Imagine the discussion a fly on the wall at that household will be privy to tonight.

Wonder if it is comparable to the fun and games at George and Kellyanne Conway‘s house...

Why is it necessary or desirable to compare them? Sounds to me like you're making excuses to justify what I said in the question. The family made arrangements to have their boat launched for Memorial Day, which means she likely knew about it. It's a matter of acting like one is privileged and above the rules and laws. It's true of Trump and of these people.

Thanks for justifying my point. Trump went golfing this weekend (at taxpayer expense), refuses to wear PPE and as a matter of course, ignores his own admins re-opening guidelines in preference to his re-election agenda. And Mich Gov. Whitmer is in hot water because hubby took a boat ride.

Or did I misunderstand your question?

My point is that both act as if rules don't apply to them. It's not just a Republican thing. And every president has gone golfing, perhaps at taxpayers' expense. What's your point?

Same as yours. Both parties are FoS.

But let’s not overlook scale in our comparisons.

Comparing one instance. But golf vs. boating? The main difference is that one is president and the other is governor.

And the President is not supporting the lockdown.  Saying Golf for me but not for you. As the Governor is ordering. This post was edited by my2cents at May 26, 2020 8:00 AM MDT

Yes, presidents have gone golfing at taxpayers' expense, but not necessarily during a pandemic or other crisis.

Sure they have. They've done it during wartime. Do you really believe JFK, LBJ, and Nixon didn't play golf during the Vietnam War? Or FDR during WWII? Or Eisenhower while we were fighting in Korea?

I'm not sure FDR was able to play golf due to his disabilities.  Did they make as big a deal out of it as Trump did?

"Making a big deal out of it" can't really be compared since the others were in office before the advent of the Internet, social media, and the 24-hour news cycle. I get that people enjoy finding fault with Trump, and there are plenty of things he does that warrant it, but one need not try so hard to do it for him playing golf. It just doesn't amount to a big (or small) scandal.

True about it not being a scandal, but it does point up how insensitive he to the plight of about 100,000 and their families.  Perhaps people wouldn't be so fast to rip him a new one had he not made such a big deal about his not having time to play golf like Obama did because he would be too busy.  It points up what a hypocrite he is, as well.  No matter how many times Obama played golf in eight years, it didn't come close to costing the taxpayers as much as what it has cost us for Trump to play in less than four.

I am sure the liberals thought Obama playing golf was insensitive to the plight of families of soldier fighting abroad and paying the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom as well.....

At the rate we get ourselves into conflicts from which we cannot extricate ourselves, if we went by that standard, none of us would leave our homes because we seem always to be at war somewhere.  Obama played golf during a period of Bush's war that is yet ongoing.  Obama did not play golf at a time when, during a three month period, 100,000 deaths occurred.

Bush did not golf because of the war.   Obama go in and he golfed. (Obama did not end the war and bring troops home....he moved them from Iraq to Afghanistan which was a campaign promise).  That is what started the whole golf nonsense.

Obama did golf continually during a flu season that killed 80,000 (reg flu 60,000 and 18,000 H1N1)....again I do not care if they golf, hunt, play basketball/make predictions on games etc.  They need something to help release stress of the job.  But If people are going to gripe they should gripe about both parties. Otherwise it is just partisanship over nothing.

The only one who was able and did not golf during wartime was G W Bush.

I do think Spunky is right FDR was not able to golf while he was POTUS.  But he was a big golfer before his polio. This post was edited by my2cents at May 26, 2020 11:55 AM MDT

Michigander here. Not only that but she, her husband (who drove from Lansing), and a few other people visited her at her summer home. All of this after she ordered "regular Michiganders"  not travel to their summer homes nor travel to see relatives. Hypocrisy at it's best. A petition (with over 200,000 signatures thus far) is still being circulated and signed to have her recalled. She deserves to be in hot water.
