Human beings populate the entire world, and while the current events taking place today in my country, the USA, are devastatingly bad, it’s not as if the rest of the world can only be viewed with rose-coloured glasses. There are places and cultures that routinely practice female genital mutilation, mercy killings, police brutality, infanticide, caste systems, forced child labor, child soldiers, rampant sanctioned corruption, dictatorships, class-based denials of opportunities, modern-day slavery, tribal warfare, genocide, religious persecution, apartheid, etc.
I am in no way attempting to excuse or sugarcoat or cover up the negativity that is taking place in the USA. I detest the racism and discrimination and inequality and hatred and killings and looting and vandalism and backward behavior that is happening here. All of it is wrong, and it sheds a very ugly image of Americans as a people for all the world to see this. Keep in mind that the advent of technology helps spread images in real time all over the world, yet just 50 or 75 or 150 or more years ago, all of these same insulting practices were being done without immediate knowledge of them being broadcast. Lynchings and race riots and KKK activity and daily acts of racism by everyday citizens and the government alike have long been realities here. I am merely stating that to express shock and amazement, while valid, does not mean places other than the US are sin-free.
