Do organizations and/ or leaders have an obligation to make a public statement on big social issues?

      Nowadays they certainly do. It’s practically social suicide not to.

    Not unless the organization is somehow involved in the story.
    EG: someone killed in WalMart's parking lot.  Even if WalMart is otherwise uninvolved, it is expected they will make an official statement.

    Generally, the best advice for an organization/leader who is not directly involved in the issue, is to keep their mouth shut.

    Yes.
    It's the most important aspect of a leader's role -- to lead.

    However - I think they need to be careful about being sincere in their statements and willing to back their stance with money and action.

    Then, if we disagree with their view, we can boycott them (refuse to work for them, refuse to buy their products,) or vote them out of office. This post was edited by inky at June 8, 2020 8:45 PM MDT
