Most People want a candidate they love. That’s why when candidates run, they promise everyone everything ... even though they know quite well that they can’t deliver (and most never intend to).
I don’t think I’ve ever “loved” a candidate. I can’t say I really liked one either. After they were elected, I found a few of them to be “ok”. I vote on a person’s stance, not whether I like them or not.
Take 2016. Both Hillary and Trump were terrible choices. Both were corrupt (the Clintons are almost as corrupt as the Kennedys’). Both were self-seekers. (did you notice how Hilary kept changing her tune depending on what group she was addressing? When she addressed the wealthy, she was pro-wealth. When she addressed the poor, she was anti-wealth. When she addressed those who wanted Obamacare strengthened, she said she’d do it. When she addressed those who liked it as it was she said she wouldn’t touch any of it. Trump, on the other hand, was a smug, xenophobic bigot. He played up to people just to get their praise. It was quite evident he knew nothing about running a government, but if he said the right words, people would swoon at his feet (and he drank it up like water).
