I am not able to answer that question because I can't read the minds of those who find it easier to accept a lie. However, I do know my own mind and, even though it sometimes hurts and embarrasses, I prefer and find it easier to hear the truth. :)
It isn't for me. If I suspect a lie, I check things out till I find the truth. If I discover a lie, I confront the liar with the evidence, using a matter-of-fact tone. If I discover that someone is a frequent or habitual liar I'll avoid them.
Some truths are unpleasant to deal with, but I'd rather know the truth and respond appropriately than try to live in or with denial.
Living with lies is always dysfunctional. It inevitably leads to far greater suffering than facing and dealing with reality as it is.
