Does it, or would it, bother you to buy condoms in a store?

I mean, such as does it embarrass you to bring them up to the cashier or clerk to check out and purchase them?

I have done so at places such as the grocery store, Walmart, and Walgreens. I don't feel embarrassed or awkward about it if it's someone at the register I don't know and may only see once, but would be if it was someone I knew well enough.

I had a long answer that is really too detailed, but my short answer is no, would not be embarrassed.

Hey I know others like that. It's certainly okay to be safe and cautious. After all, that's all you are doing. Really, I was only asking on buying them, not on who wants to use them or such. It's all good. This post was edited by Nightwolf5 at August 24, 2020 5:49 AM MDT

I’m married and I had a vasectomy decades ago, so we don’t use or need condoms at this juncture in my life. When I was single, I never had any problem whatsoever buying them, but another option for me was that due to being in the military, there were situations where conforms condoms were provided for free when we were overseas. The military recognized that STDs and unwanted pregnancies were best addressed by a simple prevention method, and some young men might not want to or might not consider going to buy them in foreign stores out in town.

Same as you, only if someone I knew (and thought would disapprove)!

I worked retail for 30 years.  Believe me, cashiers really don't care what you buy.  Sure, there are a few cashiers who might joke with a customer about it (we’re supposed to engage each customer), but most cashiers aren't judging customers purchases.  They just want the workday to end ASAP.   Like you, they have many other things that occupy our minds during the day.  The last thing they care about is someone buying rubbers.   The “judging” is all in your own mind.

Had a  vasectomy after my son was born, so like Randy I don't need them. In this day of "self serve" checkouts in supermarkets, it's a very simple matter to make purchases without subjecting them to the scrutiny of a cashier, so what's the ache?

Condoms are legal and a perfectly normal item to purchase. Why would a man (or woman) be any more embarrassed to buy them than a woman (or man) would be to purchase feminine hygiene items such as pads or tampons?

  • No that's never bothered me.  I was more embarrassed about the huge tub of cheese balls and 8 Cadbury cream eggs that I bought along with them.

Nah, no need to. Ginny and her friends over at the ranch have plenty of free, barely used ones, when needed. (With all the testing they have to go through it's only Gloria you have to watch out for nowadays, and everyone knows. We speculate there's political influence calling the tune there).
