I mean, such as does it embarrass you to bring them up to the cashier or clerk to check out and purchase them?
I have done so at places such as the grocery store, Walmart, and Walgreens. I don't feel embarrassed or awkward about it if it's someone at the register I don't know and may only see once, but would be if it was someone I knew well enough.
I’ll post my original answer but it will show I’m a control freak and a bit of a psycho lol.
edit: TMI.. I changed my mind post this info lol

I’m married and I had a vasectomy decades ago, so we don’t use or need condoms at this juncture in my life. When I was single, I never had any problem whatsoever buying them, but another option for me was that due to being in the military, there were situations where conforms condoms were provided for free when we were overseas. The military recognized that STDs and unwanted pregnancies were best addressed by a simple prevention method, and some young men might not want to or might not consider going to buy them in foreign stores out in town.

Sure, there are a few cashiers who might joke with a customer about it (we’re supposed to engage each customer), but most cashiers aren't judging customers purchases. They just want the workday to end ASAP. Like you, they have many other things that occupy our minds during the day. The last thing they care about is someone buying rubbers. The “judging” is all in your own mind.
Bravo, my friend! Very well written!
