  • We had a cat that my parents got when I was 5 and I was 24 when she died.  She was 7 months shy of being a 20 year old cat.

Cats live longer (on average as a species) than dogs. It sure seems wrong to me!

I don't hate cats. I don't want to live with one, but I don't hate them.

12 yrs. Long haired doxie. She got an infection that caused her kidneys to fail. We had to put her to sleep this July. :(

My condolences on your loss. A heart-breaking experience and I say the only truly bad thing about dogs is how short a time they're with us on earth.

17-1/2 years.  Cinnamon, an Australian Shepard/Golden Retriever cross.  Got her as a puppy, and had her until she died on the kitchen floor just before I went to work on enight (2:28).

I don't like to think about this. And my pets own me, anyway.

    :(

Sixteen years and counting - but we probably won't have him much longer. For a German Shepherd, that's ancient.

...longest amount of time that you've ever owned one particular pet?

Per The Elements of Style, omit needless words, saying the same thing here in five instead of 11!

As for the question, I lived with my first wife and her two dogs, a Jack Russell terrier and a mixed terrier, for the two plus years we were married. This post was edited by Stu Spelling Bee at August 27, 2020 5:06 AM MDT

Great! But to be particular, you didn't take out the redundant "particular." Be boldly concise and go for it!

"Why is it still there?" the GSU officer interrogated further, leaning in to the suspect. "You're not free to go until all violations are remedied."

It’s still there because I’m not going to edit it out.

Didn't you just say it was edited? This may need to be escalated to IAB.

I referred to editing the word “longest”.

"Longest" is much preferable to "most amount of time." One word instead of four, and reading it doesn't irk like the scratching of a blackboard. Help a brother officer out here!

"What's the longest you've owned one pet?"

Haven't changed my mind (or my underwear) since my first post exposing the error of your grammatical ways.
