Whenever I think of a Minnesota accent I immediately think of the mom from Bobby's World.  Do you ever say "jeepers" or "oofta"?

I've never said any of those things, lol.

Fake Minnesotianite, lol. 

I'm not a Minnesotan, though.  I'm from South Dakota, but my house is only 7½ miles from Minnesota's border.

Ohh okay....accent wise isn't SD pretty much a different world from Minn and ND? SD is like the extra light version of Minn, lol. 

I'm pretty tone deaf to accents, so I really can't tell the difference, but my husband says that only northeastern South Dakota and eastern North Dakota are the parts of the Dakotas that have the upper Midwestern accent.  He says people in the western Dakotas sound like people from western states, but I still don't hear the difference.

That's Uff Da

What does Uff da mean? I can’t figure it out. 

It's borrowed from Norwegian.  Uff generally means something like Oh Gawd! or That sucks! or sometimes this:


Da just means then.

It's sort of the Norwegian-Minnesotan way of saying Oy Vey.

Haha cute, like Fargo movie? Or is that somewhere else? I feel it’s the right accent. 

Umm, yeah, people tell me I sound like Fargo characters, but it makes sense because Fargo's not that far away.  It would only take me about 2 hours and 15 minutes to drive there.

Although the movie is called Fargo, most of it takes place in Minnesota, so the characters have Minnesotan accents.
