Both Mum and Dad revealed that they regretted marrying each other.
Mum revealed that she regretted having children - she loathed domesticity and feeling trapped.

In her 80s before she died, my mother said she regretted not having a third child. Also, my brother was born seven months after my parents were married. They always told us that he was born prematurely. On the weekend of their 60th wedding anniversary in 2016, my mother admitted that she was pregnant when they got married.

Nothing...we were a very uncommunicative and unemotional family.

Mum frequently opined that she should have held me back a year rather than sending me to school at the age of four. I was the eldest, she made her mistakes with me.
She did hold back my next-to-youngest brother, also born in May. The school year begins at the end of January.

What was the outcome of having held your brother back, and what is the age difference between the two of you?

He's a week less than ten years my junior. He was more physically and emotionally ready for school. This post was edited by Slartibartfast at December 28, 2020 1:20 AM MST
