Do you remember the first time you told a 'fib'?

I think my first fib was "mommy, the dog bit me!"

"Were you teasing him?"

"Noo."

The earliest I remember is when mother asked if I had put my finger in the butter (there clearly was a little thumb print).

I feel terrible about this. I was two or three years old, my mother was as furious as she could be when she asked us which one of us had drawn on the bedroom wall with crayons. Shaking in fear, I blamed my brother. He got the beating of his life. The drawings were my handiwork.

I told my mother that my brother bit me on the arm and I even showed her the bite marks. She rolled her eyes and said the teeth marks were pointing in the wrong direction.

Ah, so this pattern of yours of frivolously assigning blame where it doesn’t belong began early in life for you. Quite telling, quite telling indeed.

Your Honor! The defense has new evidence to present!
