What’s the best thing that you’ve ever been forced* to do in your entire life?

*Before anyone protests that that concept is impossible, look at it as something you may have been reluctant to do, yet in retrospect, you later realized that it was positive for you in some way(s).

Example: I have a relative who was the victim of a crime and out of fear did not want to take any steps toward having the perpetrator held accountable. After being forced to go through the process of identifying the perp, filing charges, giving evidence and testifying in court, the outcome was a conviction and a prison sentence. Years later, none of the feared negative consequences ever materialized, and the entire situation eventually ended up resolved.

I can recall never wanting to learn how to use a computer or the Internet.  I fought it as long as I could and when it became apparent that if I didn't learn, I wouldn't have a job, I applied myself and dug in.  The internet  is a very useful tool, but it has it's down side as well.

Something is very screwy here.  I got three notifications all for this same reply!

Me, too.  Sometimes, it appears that I have 40+ notifications and as I go through them, they boil down to maybe 10.

I was forced to do numerous things in boot camp; it made me a better man and taught me discipline.

I was about 13 years old and my parents very strongly told me to join the school's track team. They had seen how fast I ran. I had not even thought of joining.

My parents supported me in my interests but this time they suggested an activity for me - - an activity I probably would not have pursued if they had not initiated.  "We really believe you would do well to join the track team. You're a fast runner."

That's the closest thing they ever "forced" me to do.

The following six years were a joy for me. :)
