When you were a child, did anyone ever ask you: "What do you want to be/do when you grow up?"?

If so, what was your answer?

I always wanted to fly. Even as a kid, I was enough of a realist to know that the only way I could afford that was via the military, so I had my heart set on learning to pilot C130 and P3C aircraft, then moving into civil aviation at the conclusion of my RAAF "hitch". Even though I cut my teeth reading Biggles and watching Baa Baa Black Sheep, I never saw myself as a fighter pilot - I wanted to fly the big ones.
In my teens I suffered a reality check - the eyes just weren't going to be up to it, I needed glasses (still do) for distance. So I set my sights a little lower - sit in the control tower and help the boys and girls upstairs get to where they wanted to go - Air Traffic Control.
    I failed the medical.

What if I were to ask you that question today?

All the time.  And my answer was always the same - "I dunno".

That's what I said to my high school counselor. It was the only time I ever saw him.

Yes. I wanted to be a bagniokeeper.
'Oh my gosh,' they said, 'that job went out with the ark. Are you sure that's what you want?'
'Yes,' I said, 'when does the next ark sail? I plan to be on it.'

That would be a pimp? I too wanted to do that as an after retirement career.

    Yes.

    A mother.

      Not specifically your mother?

    No. A mother.

I remember wanting a variety of professions, none as much as being a mother.

      Owe, eye sea.

At first, I thought you meant that “a mother“ was the person who asked you the question.

That wasn't part of the question, was it?

      In a way, yes.

    For example:
    “Did anyone ever ask you . . . “

    ”Yes, a mother asked me, and I said . . . “

In fact, my original answer was going to simply be the word “yes”, because it wasn’t uncommon to be asked that question several times as a youngster, and by several different people.

After I typed the first word, the rest of my story came flooding back into my mind.

Okay. It is already a 2-part question, though.

    Right?

I wish you would have said "I concur". It would have been hilarious.

Some TV show or movie. Oh, it just came to me! It was 'Catch Me if You Can". Leonardo DiCaprio's character is watching old Marcus Welby, MD or something similar in order to learn how to be a doctor (LOL!) and he latches on to the phrase "Do you concur?" as something physicians say to one another.

It's just one of those things that make me laugh, Randy. I'm easily amused, you know.
