When do babies learn to know the difference between right and wrong?

Would it help to feed them an apple?

    It wasn't an apple.

    Genesis 2
    The Fall

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”

The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

So when a baby becomes aware; "I am naked" then he/she has become knowledgeable about right and wrong.

When they reach the age of accountability.  I think it's different for everyone.

Not so fast with that assumption, Kit. The reaction to learning about nudity and its various nuances cannot be lumped into a single category. Some cultures and customs deal with infants’ nudity, children’s nudity, all even all human nudity differently. Look at the so-called “counter-culture” in the Western world known as hippies. Nudity and near-nudity are more common among them than the wider culture. Certain peoples and/or tribes worldwide, especially depending on climate, practice nudity as a normal way of everyday life.

Furthermore, some children on an individual basis do not see anything wrong with being naked, even if and when parents try to present it otherwise. The examples of the children who go running stark naked from the bathtub to the living room full of dinner guests, or trotting proudly outside to play in the yard while in the buff come to mind.

My son knew right from wrong when he was four. He was showing a friend my motorcycle and knocked it over. Not a baby, of course, but a good right from wrong message. Don't touch daddy's motorcycle.

Was that actually "right and wrong", or "making daddy happy or angry"? Kids can learn that one VERY young, my granddaughter can already pick it and she's not yet three. There's no set age for the other, it can be any age between six and ten (and some people are incapable of ever learning it - my autistic grandson may be one of them, it's still too early to tell). There is no set age. They learn as they grow and are taught by their parents.

If the Asker is referring to the Bible (Genesis 3), it refers to a "fruit of a tree" (at least the original Hebrew does, whatever a wrong translation may sometimes be) - No mention of any "apple"!
It does however, further on in the same chapter, refer to Adam and Eve clothing themselves with "fig leaves"! This post was edited by Robert at August 7, 2021 1:05 PM MDT
