If I had put a tooth under my pillow and found $100,000 there next morning I would not report it.

What-who told you I found $100,000?   (yeah, sure).   And why on earth would you believe them?

Besides, I haven't been out of the house all day.  Been right here here all day, just surfing the internet.  Looking at  cars.  Yep, thinking 'bout me one.  Maybe a 2021 Lexus LC 500h.   Might even pay cash for it.  But finding $100,000?  Only in my dreams.  And Even if I did, you know I'd turn it in to the police. After all, someone might be looking for it.

By the way,  what color do you think I should I get the car in... silver or red?

A lot depends on the circumstances of how I found it and where.  That is a lot of money to be in a backpack or gym bag and my first thought would be that it was, or was to be, used for some nefarious purpose because most people just carry a wallet with some cash.  I would be hesitant NOT to report it because who knows to whom that money belongs and if they would come after me for it.  My well-being is worth more than $100k.       There are wallets that can hold $100,000?

The circumstance of me being me, here, now, and growing too old to give a tinkers about right and wrong - hell, this is 2021 isn't it? Go with the flow I say. As your average politician will tell you anytime he or she's had one too many, 'honesty's for mugs, give me a top up, there's a good chap'.

What I find is what I keep under every circumstance. Even if it was from a charity and/or some gang. This post was edited by Zack at March 22, 2021 6:52 AM MDT

If I found it in my mattress. I stash money all over the place and sometimes I forget about it.

It's probably proceeds of crime. If you hand it to the authorities, the criminal may have a smart enough lawyer to have the money returned to him. If you don't, you may have to watch your back.

Thank you. The question asks what would you do in the situation.

Report it to whom, the IRS or the police? As Stu said, I wouldn't report it to anyone under any circumstance other than my wife.

Rookie mistake, Professor. And to think that you were doing so well with the way your answer was starting out. I am deeply disappointed. (Sigh.)
