Junk drawer. Garage. Den. Teenager’s bedroom. Laundry room. Kitchen sink. Back patio. Attic. Basement.

Which part of your current residence most aptly could be described as a rat’s nest?

[I purposely used the word “current” because it brings Stu out of the woodwork like flashing the Bat Signal over Gotham. Awaken the sleeping giant.]

Are you kidding?  Everything here is neat and in order (OCD).  The only rats nest is under the shed... and it has real rats in it.

Rat's indicates possession.  The rats (many) do NOT possess the nest, it belongs to me (on my property, made out of my stuff).  They're just freeloaders, willfully ignoring all eviction notices.

The real rat's nest is the one in the car engine.  They made it from their "stuff"... which then got sucked into the fan (blower).  So they had their babies inside the glove box ... point to rats.  I used a vacuum to suck out the babies... point to me.  They chewed through the oxygen sensor... point to rats.  I removed their food source (piece by piece)... point to me.  And the war rages on.

Nice try. The nest is the noun that is being possessed, which is why the apostrophe is necessary and mandatory in this context. Simple as that.

They can possess all the nouns they desire, just as long as they do it elsewhere!

(If the noun is possessed do we need to perform an exorcism?)

That happened to my sister's car; rats ate the electrical system.

The only kind of a rat's nest I have is an old peanut butter can half full of spare commas, apostrophes, periods, hyphens etc and a few tildes that I will probably never use. This post was edited by Kittigate at May 31, 2021 8:39 PM MDT

Hey, wait! Let’s cut a deal on those tildes!

Some original mint condition tildes for a wad of $100s? ..Well  throw in a ton of good kitty litter and we can call it a deal.

The shed. One corner is my home office, the rest of it is a complete mess. Keeping my son's junk in it while he's house hunting.

Garage, I guess. My closet isn't looking too good either.
