No. I own no ascots, I have never tasted caviar, I don’t know a thing about golf, I don’t call my wife by a pet name of “Buffy” or “Lovey” or “Petunia”, I don’t smoke cigars, and we don’t motor down to the Cape to our summer home.

I've been known to call various beings "Lovey".

You have some Freudian analysis to apply to that?

I’ll get back to you after I’ve consulted my panel of experts on The Ansley Dossier Research Foundation.

I know there's a lot to go through. I won't hold my breath.

All of us farm kids were members of a country club. You gotta bale hay, slop the pigs, clean out barns, pigpens  and chicken coops, milk the cows and harvest all the grain. Fun activities dawn to dusk.

It's a great healthy lifestyle! No membership fees required. This post was edited by Kittigate at June 27, 2021 5:52 PM MDT

We were invited to join two.  My husband really wanted to join initially, but I didn't.  When we realized that a particular race was excluded from membership at one of them we declined both invitations.  That was in the 80s.  When my younger daughter was graduating elementary school in the 90s they planned the class party at that club.  I don't know what the hell they were thinking.  I lived in a community that was  almost 45% Jewish.  Every parent I knew objected and the party place was moved.  I really don't know if this particular thing has changed now or not.  But it was shocking when we found out.  I lived there until 2010 and never considered joining any of the several country clubs or swim/tennis clubs there.    It really isn't my thing anyway.

Closest I ever got to that was visiting an upmarket church. I felt uncomfortable parking my jalopy amongst the BMWs and Mercedes-Benzes, and the "prosperity theology" didn't fit the teaching of Jesus, so I never went back.

Nope. Not my style.  There is nothing country about a "country club."

    I'm with Groucho Marx:

“I wouldn't want to belong to a club that would have me as a member”
