Why do people laugh when someone falls down?

I don't see what's so funny.  The person could be hurt.  Do you  think it is funny and why do you feel that way? Serious question.

Unfortunately, there are many people who find ridicule in various types of pain, mishaps, suffering and/or misfortune of others. I wonder similarly why people laugh when they hear a very young child use profanity. Rather than finding it cute or endearing, I think it’s a shame.

I wish that from a very early age and then quite often throughout their upbringing, all children would be taught an important adage: “You don’t help someone by laughing at him or her”. It might make for better adults in the long run.

It's not always funny, but sometimes it's hilarious.

    We laugh because it's funny.

In general, we laugh at people to assert Our superiority over them.  In other words, when someone does something to make them look silly it makes us feel better about ourselves.

It's only funny if the person isn't hurt and laughs at themselves.

It's human nature I guess. You know that you're getting old when people stop laughing when you fall down.

That fall I took last month that ripped my leg open was definitely not fun. It still hasn't healed.

Thank you. I feel fine. It wasn't even painful, just bloody. It required 12 stitches. They were there for three weeks before my daughter could take them out.
