What is the closest you have ever come to having a vehicle accident but managed to avoid it?
I was driving on the Number 1 with pedal to the metal when the 2 right side wheels went onto the gravel shoulder. The car was swerving a bit but I managed to get 'er back onto the pavement.
Driving after work from here to Great Falls Mo. Fell asleep at the wheel. The rumble strips on the side of the road wakened me, and I avoided the ditch. Stopped for coffee at the next town.
A woman in a van left a parking lot right in front of me. Instead of hitting the brakes, (I still would have hit her.) I sped up, swerved left into another lane, where another car was coming right toward me. I then swerved back into the right lane. It all took about three seconds and nobody was hurt.
I've hd several close calls, one just a couple of weeks ago. The one that stands out as the most heart stopping happened in Arizona. I was on a 4 lane highway going down a hill approaching a crossroad. Someone crossed over in front of me to turn left without warning or slowing down. I impressed myself with my quick response in avoiding the crash by crossing back over to the right between other cars that were also on the highway. Using all 4 lanes, I finally pulled over to the right to catch my breath. It was one of those, "you had to be there," to appreciate what happened. My guardian angel had to be helping me, it was an impossible situation. I did have one more that God alone saved me from certain death but I had no part in that at all.
It did end up being an accident but the other car and my car never touched each other. The other car was backing down the exit ramp of an expressway. When I went onto the ramp I realized he was backing. I had to swerve which caused my car to start spinning. It hit the guard rail and kept spinning across the exit ramp, across a grassy area, across two lanes of expressway traffic and came to a stop in the median. When I was headed for the rail the three most precious people in my world flashed before my eyes and I prayed for their future. After I came to a stop and was able to start breathing I realized I had a scratch on my face where I hit the rear-view mirror. The other car had pulled up ahead and off of the road on the left. When I saw it, I got out of my car running and he began moving slowly. I got to him and started beating on the trunk of his car, screaming like a wild woman. He drove away. His car had no tag and there were at least eight people in that little Chevy. By now a trooper had stopped and when I saw him, I collapsed.
