Once I became addicted to alcohol I was always 'swimming against the tide'. There wasn't much chance of me being successful at anything.

Harder to think of times when I've not felt that way until a few years ago.

  • That's a tough swim!  I have to join you in that ... growing old is constantly feeling like you're swimming upstream.

  • Well, I guess my lack of interest in dating or sex has been an example of me "going against the grain" or whatever the similar metaphor may be. :)

Would “swimming against the tide” be the metaphor?

I've been swimming against the tide on this one for my entire life, through even today.

I'll share a picture of my favorite weather/sky/beautiful weather.
And I've been specifically "told" by the 'general public,' meteorologists, folk lore, fiction, music, etc., that I am wrong with the weather I find beautiful.

Enjoy that cloudy day!  My husband also prefers cloudy days.

    Thanks, I will!
I look forward to the next cloudy day! It's been six days in a row of very warm and not-a-cloud-in-the-sky weather  -- ug.  :)

And feel free to tell your husband I'm glad I'm not alone on the weather preference.

Growing up, I was a free-range kid in a sea of kids with helicopter parents.

I was an out-of-place parochial school student.  In parochial schools, the pastor’s kid is always the most popular kid.  I didn’t think he was that great.  I hung around the unpopular kid.  He was the most fun and interesting kid.

I have lots unpopular opinions.  I think the US should switch to metric system, a position supported by only 21% of the people in the US.

Politics are a lost cause to me.  The candidate isidewith.com says that I agree with the most (74%) is currently polling at 1%.  However, isidewith.com has been excellent at predicting the Democratic Party presidential nominees for me.  The candidates I agreed with the least won the primary the last two times.  It’s amazing how that works, lol.
