And I  was joking around with my reply to you - I know I'm in the minority;  this song is really a big hit. I've just never liked his voice.  :)

I'm trying to remember where I first heard it a couple of years ago; a movie or show, I think. I immediately liked it, and that distinctive accent! :)

I like accents of many kinds in singers but his I don't like. I simply don't like the way he sings. 
And I listened again just now- - I find him just yelling through much of the song. A very big "Ick" for me. Ha!

But, again -- I'm glad you came in to answer!!

I like the accent too in general.  Have you watched Shetland on Netflix?  This made me think about it.  It's a good series if you like that kind of stuff, and you can get your fill of the accent.  :)

Yeah, his accent is strong (maybe that's part of his pronunciation stuff?) - - I like various accents (like Dolores O'Riordan of The Cranberries) in many singers but not his, ha.

I never heard of him, either.  I'm open to listening to all genres of music and I only hear him by chance.  But I immediately change the station if I hear him while driving.  :)

I'll listen to other genres of music also, except for rap and hip hop, that crap belongs in the garbage can. I did listen to a few seconds of the video you posted with your question, then I quickly turned it off. 

Ha! I don't blame you for turning it off. I like the piano part of the song, though.

Yeah, and I sort of "took it" that the genres you listed are the ones you particularly like. And this song certainly doesn't fit into them.

And I don't know if it fits into any of your preferences, but I really like Rednex's version "Cotton Eye Joe"   :)
