The sun is a natural sanitizer. Using a shopping cart that has been setting in the sun seems like a safer choice to me. What do you think?

  • I would still use a sanitizing wipe on the handle .. but yes, being in the sun is helpful.

The lady in the picture looks kind of cute, BB!  Listen, once she’s over the volatile retching jags, the dry heaves have passed, and after she gets all cleaned up, brushes, flosses, gargles, and has freshly showered, do your ol’ buddy Randy D a huge favor and introduce us to each other, please.  Thanks!

      (Cough, cough.)

    It's not, really.
Thankfully, the UV rays that kill viruses and bacteria are mostly stopped by our atmosphere.
If those rays were not stopped, they would kill all life - not just viruses/bacteria.

So yeah - just use a sanitizer, if you're concerned about viruses/bacteria on a surface.

If you read about this, there are a few factors that must be present for this to work.  If you leave something in your car for over 30 minutes and the inside of the car reaches 130 degrees  you can assume everything in it is sanitized.  That is from heat though.   I thought about leaving the mask I just used in the car knowing it would be germ free when I got back into the car in a few days.  However the thought of the sweat and spit is a bar to that.  I wash disposable masks.  I haven't used them but am keeping them in a separate box.

Ha!  If you knew what a shopping cart goes through in just 24 hours, you'd never use one again.  Yeah!  You could soak a cart in boiling bleach until it dissolved, and it STILL wouldn't be sanitary!   Best just to tell yourself that your sanitizing wipe made it all nice and clean.

The rain washes them clean and the sun disinfects them.

Oooookaaa...     Um... I worked in grocery for 30 years.  Some of the things WE (employees) did with carts (despite any company policy) were ultra gross.  Sometimes it was so bad we had to throw the cart away (and those things are NOT cheap!).   The things people did with them (e.g. toilets, fire pits, trash bins, used sex toy and/or drug paraphernalia receptacles, homes) was downright nauseating.    Sure we had a company come once a year to power wash the metal arts, but some things just won't wash out.  We palatalized the "non usable" plastic carts, and had them trucked to a landfill.

Safer than what? And how can it be in the sun if the sun is setting?

Er, um, there’s still sunlight while the sun is setting, so that’s how it can be in the sunlight during sunset. It’s after sunset that there is no sunlight.

I'm sure it is a germ killer. What you really need to do is save your urine until it is stale and use that as a natural cleanser. It's real lemon pledge. This post was edited by CosmicWunderkind at August 9, 2021 8:30 AM MDT
