I saw something yesterday I never have before. The store manager where I bought my fishing license was carrying a handgun.

It is in a very bad, high crime area. Have you ever seen that?

Very hard to get a handgun license in NY State and even harder to get open carry, if it exists.

    It's quite easy here.

How else do you expect the guy to defend himself against unlicensed fish?

I see it every day here. I carry a gun everywhere I go. Here in Kentucky we have Constitutional Carry, which means no permit needed to carry a gun either open or concealed.

Absent any legislation to step away from the common law, that is  the law of the land.  Southerners are just used to seeing guns.  A rifle in the back seat doesn't cause a cop to go into high gear at a traffic stop.  My husband used to always carry a gun, even in a tux once that I remember.

More and more people are carrying guns, and more states are going constitutional carry.

Yup, that's how it's done. Teach them at an early age.

Guns weren't common in Australia even before Port Arthur.

Compared to the US, people are not all that common in Australia either.

Er, um, no.  I was not there with you, so I did not see it.

  • I haven't seen it.  My brother owns a hotel.  He keeps his gun under the counter when he's behind the desk.  I think that's where most shopkeepers keep their guns if they have them.  Here, handguns are only allowed for self-defense inside of a person's home or business.  We don't have shall-issue concealed carry licenses like the US does.
