They said this would be permitted within the strictures of Islam. I seriously doubt that under Islamic Law, women and girls were permitted to go to school or hold jobs.
EDIT: Just posted on Facebook, the Taliban's response regarding women's rights: "“We are guaranteeing all their rights within the limits of Islam.”

It's perfectly okay under Islamic law (Iran under the Shah was very permissive, Turkey and Dubai still are in many respects). However, Sharia law is less open to liberal interpretation. It depends on which law they intend to observe.
Amnesty is twaddle. Anybody who worked with the US is branded a collaborator and is toast unless they get out. With regard to women, it's unlikely but possible. Afghanistan is heavily dependent on aid, primarily from Pakistan. Possibly Afghanistan can be as liberal as Pakistan.
