That same air power, combined with missiles and rockets fired from various methods, is also making ships very easy floating targets that are quite expeditiously despatched to watery graves.

I think since the dawn of shipbuilding, the aim, the assumption, and the hope have always been that every vessel was/is supposedly unsinkable. History, physics, fact, logic, and opposing forces have shown that to be false time and time again.

I don’t deny there’s been thought and effort put into extensive research and development, and that in theory it’s supposed to work, but if none of those particular ships have yet been attacked by enemy forces to the point of testing it in actual combat situations with the goal of sinking them, only time will tell whether or not it’s truly effective.

I vividly recall the massive and fervent anti-nuclear demonstrations put on by throngs of Australian people when our (US Navy) ships landed there back in the early 1980s. Even ships that were neither nuclear powered nor carried nuclear weapons were subject to the protests. My, how times must have changed.
