To me, Suri's scent is faint and pleasant when push my nose into her fur. But to wild tomcats it must be a clarion call for kilometers. Apparently, they can't tell that she is desexed. So, regrettably, to save the native wildlife, I have to trap each new fellow in a cage and deliver him to the vet for euthanasia. It is one of the tasks I most hate.
In Australia, many species of birds and small marsupials, essential to the symbiosis of the native ecology, have become extinct due to the predations of cats. The original felines were dumped, sexually entire. They have multiplied through many areas of wilderness. Other species are on the brink of extinction. The only way to save what remains is to eliminate the feral cats. Law requires that all domestic cats are de-sexed and breeders must house their animals in fully enclosed territories.
