Suppose you are single and open to blind dating and are offered opportunity to meet someone named 'Tracy' at a party...

Would you just assume that person will be your opposite gender?
Unless you are gay...

I am not single, but I would prefer someone with sight.

The person has sight but after giving them an honest description of your appearance they decided to go blindfolded.

Just joking! This post was edited by Kittigate at January 2, 2022 6:38 PM MST

Meeting someone at a party isn't blind dating.  I don't mind meeting anyone at a party.....say hi and bye.  This question seems to be missing thoughtfulness.

Yes, well the basis of the question is weather to assume someone with the name 'Tracy' is the right gender for the blind dater to meet. Is Tracy a man or woman?

I would hope my blind date is the opposite gender but sometimes (when I was in the Navy) some unexpected events did happen with regard to blind dating. This post was edited by Kittigate at January 2, 2022 2:53 PM MST

I know.  Now I think I read it to mean someone just introducing me to Tracy at a party.  Perhaps you meant that I had a blind date with Tracy and we were going to meet up at the party.  In that latter case, I would ask Tracy or a mutual friend.  If I kind of liked him I would probably ask him.  I guess there is a correct way to ask that question.

    Nooo.

I used to work with a person named Stacy... a big, burly, bald man.  We called him, Mr Stacy.  (I assume his wife called him hon, while his daughters called him dad.)

I think you're asking if someone who knows me is trying to set me up romantically with someone named Tracy, whom I've never met, at a party to be my date, correct? I would presume that it would be a male Tracy, but I definitely would verify.

Yup that is correct. I think I would just take my chances what gender 'Tracy' is. Fun fun fun...

My relative of that name is definitely female, but I hope it's not her.

I doubt that I would assume either way, I’d just ask.

Maybe for you it does. I, on the other hand, turn it to my advantage . . .

In today's society, I wouldn't guess as to their gender ... either birth or identified.
