Which kind of body of water would be your preference to have a home on the shore of; a lake, a river or the great huge salty ocean?

If you happen to be an old sea dog and know how to listen carefully, you can hear the ocean spin her yarns of great sea ventures of ye great glorious olden days of wooden ships and sail.

    A nice clear river.

We plan to build both a lake and a house next to it in the next few years.

Build  your own lake? Great idea! What will you name the lake?

The property has a deep valley in it. My husband  says he just needs to rent a dozer for about a week and then just wait for it to fill up.   We have not thought about naming it yet. This post was edited by my2cents at January 24, 2022 10:33 AM MST

She's just leaving out unnecessary words that add nothing.

I should introduce Stu to her. They might hit it off, kindred spirits, you know.

You can give him my home phone number. And you can also just leave my citations  there as well.

    Lol!

You hear that, Stu? I think she wants you to fix her tickets, make them go away.

"Would you prefer to have a home on a lake, a river, or the ocean?"

I just said in 15 words precisely what you took 28 to ramble on aboot, eh.

'Rambling on' adds a bit of color to my text rather than the drab short and sweet effect.

Although omitting all those needless words makes it both easier to write and easier to read.

But 13 of the 28 words, almost half, added absolutely nothing. Every word should tell in a well-written piece, not just half the words.

Descriptive words are nice to have in a sentence.
This not a writing class. We can all use as many words as we want to establish our point.

I love the ocean, the pacific ocean like Santa Monica or Venice.  There is always something happening around there: drum circles in the summer, street entertainment.  Of course in September when the tourists go home the beach takes on a completely different life.  Folks who live there can be seen playing checkers or going for walks on the beach. The sound of the waves, the sea life, the fog horn at night.  It all is one wonderful experience that never ends.

I guess a lake would be ok as well as a river if they were located in places that other discoveries could be made.

Yes, it does.  A river would be nice if there were fossils and other ancient things to look for, or even gold.

You failed to capitalize “Pacific Ocean”.  I want a divorce.

You're so picky, and besides you didn't show up for the wedding so I ran off to a far away place.  I am there now, enjoying the weather.
