If the company you work for owned an apartment building nearby your work place and offered low rental rates for employees, would you take...

advantage of the offer and move in?

My friend from China says it is quite common for corporations to do that practice and I think sometimes the corporations even make it obligatory for employees to move in and occupy  the rental property they provide.

Nope. I like a little more separation than that.

No, I'd rather not risk losing my job and my home at the same time.

Right, that thought never occurred to me.

The company would still be subject to the same landlord/tenant laws as any other apartment.
So they would have to give you the same notice before starting eviction proceedings.
And from personal experience, it can take over a year to force someone out of a property.

That reminds me of my Marine Corps days, especially when as a single man, I lived in the barracks or aboard ship, and when I got married and lived in base housing.

    I have done that.
I worked at a "Christian" conference center that provided housing and meals for the employees.

SavvyAnsley mentioned the worst part ... no separation of work and home life.
The people you worked with were your roommates or neighbors.

  • No, I wouldn't.  My apartment is expensive but I like where I live.  I work for an airline.  My city has two airports which are 38 kilometres apart, and I fly out of both of them.  Sometimes, I need to go from one to the other for my next flight, so I wouldn't be close to my job all of the time.

Nope. You can't keep a Staffy in an apartment.

Depends on the condition of the property  and if I would be on call all the time etc. But not likely as I do not care for apartment living.

I have often lived near my work. Where I could literally  walk 200ft to work. But I have also always been the boss.
