Do you think the predictable and repetitive responses on here contribute to the disappearance of formerly active members?

Or could the inside jokes and running gags make the site less attractive to new people?

Well I still talk to a few former members and some of them did leave because of boredom. And it is possible that inside jokes and running gags make the site less attractive to new people. I think we might soon be losing another member and we can't afford to have that happen  because if this site keeps shrinking  it won't be worth the Administrators time to keep it going. Cheers!

When was the last time you saw a new member appear?  You have to be here to leave.

People can look at the site without becoming a member. So I don't know if it doesn't interest them enough to join or if people are just not finding the site.

I suppose you have a point, but a quick look wouldn't tell someone whether there are ongoing inside jokes or repetitive answers.

I could meet you later to discuss it in more comfortable settings, your place, for instance . . . oh, wait. It’s stuff like this that’s exactly what you mean, right? Oops.

Recurrent "inquiries" are going to elicit recurrent  responses.
Without inside jokes or limping gags, there isn't much left.  (the gags these days don't run, they limp).

What seems to draw in people in these days is nastiness.  I have been on a few other similar sites.  When new people come in, they bring their debauchery with them.  The more mature people either sink to the level of the newcomers, or leave.  The sites that don't let this junk in, eventually fold from lack of members.
Sites that try to have it both ways (sections for both adult and perversion), also don't last long, as the decadence eventually infiltrates the entire site, and quickly becomes the "norm".

Some people get bored with the repetitive nature of sites like this one. However, there are others like me that don't seem to get bored with questions, answers, and reactions they've seen before. It depends on what you got on your plate and how much time you're willing to spend with us fools.

Yes, there is something to be said for familiarity.

How many tildes does a sandwich cost? And how many Canadians does it take to make one? I suppose I could come up with some stupid math problems or ridiculous preggo questions. This post was edited by Element 99 at February 14, 2022 6:14 AM MST

And they will probably get the same responses.

Extremist views tend to be a turn-off for many people. Others might get tired of feeling that everything they write is going to be scrutinized and judged by grammar cops. There's also the rumor that private messages aren't actually private.

People sometimes get busy with their offline lives, too.

Gee, not one typographical error, not a single one. Great job!

I don't understand why people think they must "leave" if they don't want to be active.  Just do what you want and be active if/when you want.  There is need for a decree regarding your Answermug intentions.  Sometimes I'm away for a while but that doesn't mean I'm finished with the site.  You can play in many parks and I do.
