Yes, and we live in it. One of our mayors called it "the gun and knife district".  Its getting a facelift though, older houses being replaced with big duplex or fourplex infills.  Don't know if that will make it better or worse.

I’ve been to twenty-four countries in the world, and I’ve been to almost twice as many cities or towns in the United States. What I’ve learned is that practically without fail and without exception, every place has a bad side to it, especially if and when one is looking for it.

Yes - the east side, the west side, the north side, and the south side.

I think just about every town does.
For some reason, in my area it is normally the east side.

I live in a suburb and it really doesn't have a bad part. But, the city it's near has more than one bad side.

Of all the suburbs there, what’s the elevation of the one where you live, please? (Cough, cough.)

No.  We have hurricanes.  Ghettos can't survive.  There is one normal trailer park out on the highway that looks kind of rough.  I've never heard a word about it though.  I call it normal because the mobile home communities here are very nice and very expensive double-wide homes with manicured lawns....monthly rentals $800-1000 (probably more that I've just not heard of) ....that doesn't include you buying the home....that's lot rent and amenities.

Do trailers there have bullseyes on the roofs, making it easier for tornadoes to spot them?

Oh goodness.  I don't think so.  It's a dangerous place here to live in mobile homes.  The double-wides are built to code and seem to fare as well as stick-built homes.  Most of the buildings are concrete; my house is concrete.  I would not live in a frame  house down here.

  • Buenos Aires has bad parts of town.  Generally, if it's named Villa followed by a number, don't go there.  My neighborhood is mostly safe but I must still be careful and carry pepper spray and self defense claws.

More commonly known in the U.S. as brass knuckles, I think, although these clearly are not brass. This post was edited by SpunkySenior at March 6, 2022 8:35 PM MST

  • Those are similar to the claws I have. They're designed to collect a DNA sample to take to the police.

I bet that there is a big difference between a Canadian bad part of town and a Buenos Aires bad part of town. I like the idea of having  waning signs that lets people  know that the area is not safe. Cheers!

  • I imagine that Canadian cities don't have villas as Buenos Aires does. Villa means slum.

Here are the 2020 crime statistics for the City of Buenos Aires. The city has 3.075.646 inhabitants. I don't know how these rates compare to Canadian cities.

    125 murders
    93 attempted murders
    16 accidental or unintentional murders
    11869 assaults or robberies
    258 rapes
1600 other sexual crimes  This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at March 6, 2022 8:49 PM MST

Well there was a total of over 650 murders across Canada last year and I think that is way too many for a Country that is said to be full of friendly people. Most of the murders are tied to gangs. Cheers!

  • That equals a rate of 53 murders per million people in Argentina and 17 murders per million people in Canada.
