In sports losing team never gets consolation prize; you think they should receive some sort of thing to show appreciation for their efforts?

What might be something suitable as consolation prize for the team that tried hard but but failed?

Because of a provision in the NFL's bargaining agreement with the Players Association, theagreement stipulates players on the winning team earn an extra $150,000 for playing in the Super Bowl, while players on the losing team earn half that amount: $75,000.Feb 13, 2022.

    Pretty good consolation prize, eh?

The Grey Cup earnings are crappy. Winners: $16,000 for the entire team, runner-up: $8,000.

Ever watch Wimbledon? The losing finalist also gets a prize. A much smaller one, of course. There's also silver and bronze Olympic medals.

A contracted earning for members of a losing team is not a consolation prize; it is contracted pay.

In a championship final such as the World Series (if we ever see major league baseball again), the American League champion faces the National League champion. Both teams have already won and been awarded league championship trophies.
