[What are some name-related traditions specific to your family?
~]
In my family, the fourth in line always hates his name. Both my husband and one of my first cousins were named after their father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and they both hate their names. My first cousin’s name is Robert, just like his dad, our grandpa and our great-grandpa.
My husband’s name is George and he absolutely hates the name. He even refuses to go to businesses where the employees greet people by their first names. My father-in-law wanted my husband to carry on the tradition, but my husband absolutely refused, which led to an epic battle. My husband uses his last name as first name because he also hates the sound of his first name and middle name together.
My husband likes the Spanish name Jorge and he thinks the Spanish variant of his middle name sounds great with the name Jorge, so now he’s considering a name change. He thinks the problem with a legal name change is actually getting other people to use the new name. Also, some people, my uncle comes to mind, would still insist on pronouncing Jorge as George.
