Have you ever done something to anyone that made no sense to him or her and also devastated him or her?

Note: the question does not specify that only intentional action(s) be considered, unintentional actions that you later found out had devastated someone are also part of the equation.

    I met friends at an amusement park.

    That particular friend took offense that I made plans with other friends, seemingly not understanding how I could do such a thing.
