How do some states outlawing abortion simultaneously condone capital punishment? If one is “playing God,” isn’t the other?

    It is not about "playing God."

    It is about protecting innocent life.
    Both the innocent life of the unborn and the innocent lives that are taken by a murderer. (You do not get death penalty unless you murdered someone)

    Correction: Unless you are convicted of murder. Wrongful convictions have led to numerous wrongful executions. It’s the best argument against the practice.

    Innocent people being executed by the state is nothing but semantics, Stu. Or it's fake news, never really happened. Or, this so-called "innocent" person probably killed someone else or broke some other law and deserved it. Or maybe it doesn't matter unless it's someone I know or someone whose life I deem worthy to give a fig about. Because that's what Jesus would do!

    It prevents the convicted murderer from murdering another innocent life.

    But he said protecting the life of the murder victim. Nothing can bring that person back. And a life sentence prevents more murders as well.

    I guess you believe  no gets murdered in prison....

    No one is claiming, it protects or brings back the original murdered victim.   (See both my post above and Gino's below) 
    But it likely prevents another person from being  murdered by the same criminal. (Be it in the world or while in prison)

    The question makes sense to me.  Being anti-abortion and pro-death penalty at the same time doesn’t make any sense to me, but the obverse is also true.  Supporting legalized abortion and opposing the death penalty at the same time also doesn’t make any sense to me, but I have a minority opinion.  

    Currently, states that are truly pro-life are also a minority.  There are only two of them, North Dakota and West Virginia.  There are four if you count Michigan and Wisconsin.  Neither has the death penalty and both have pre-1973 abortion restrictions which were never taken off the books.  It remains to be seen if they’ll enforce them or not.

    Yes, I agree with you. If abortion is wrong, capital punishment should be, too.

    Perhaps it may not be playing God but, to me, it makes no sense-- and life is life to me.

    I don't quite get the logic with capital punishment:

    "We, the government, will show everyone that killing people/taking a life is wrong by killing people/taking a life."

    Because both laws are not about protecting life, they are about exerting control and restricting freedom. I would elaborate, but I  just don't have the bandwidth today to cope with comments from the peanut gallery.
