If you’ve ever arrived at home after shopping and realized you left an item you bought at the store, what item was it, and what did you do?

My wife...I waited until she called to go get her. (Humorous answer, of course.)

I've done it more than once. I don't recall what I've left without, other than my wallet and phone.

At the grocery store I bought and paid for four large bags of groceries (not self-checkout, the checkout employee checked me out)
I drove home, pulled in driveway, parked car.
Only then did I realize I left all four bags of groceries at the store.

EDIT: And then I drove back to the grocery store. I lived about five minutes away. I think I noticed a couple of the employees point at me and laugh as I came back in. We all ended up laughing a bit.
