  • I went to Quilmes Rock this past April.  Before that, I went to Lollapalooza this past March.

Paula Abdul circa 1990. The row of seats behind me was full of teenaged girls who screamed at the absolute tops of their lungs from the minute Paula was introduced to the the minute she left the stage. Their screaming never ceased because even if one of them or a few of them stopped to catch their breath or to pass out or something, there were about a dozen others keeping up the slack, and to make matters worse, their overall screaming intensified at the beginning of each song.

There are reasons it’s been that many years since I’ve last attended any live music event, including the expense and the predatory practices of Ticket Slavemaster and the other similar gouging services. I’m generally not a fan of live music anyway. The only reason I had attended that one was my interest in the woman I invited as my date.

The interrupting-the-musician/s with screaming and screaming and more screaming, and clapping-during-songs are the main reason I don't like 'live'/'in concert' recordings.

Fortunately for me, audiences have been pretty respectful to the artists at the concerts I've attended.

I didn't really "attend" the concert, but I was there. I've been a fan of  Bette Midler since she first appeared on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show. I attended her concert on her first ever tour (can't remember the year). I was also at a concert of hers around 1995-96 when I had a part time job at our local arena in the snack stand. Because few attendees came to the snack stand during the concert, I had a chance to stand at the top of the stairs and watch the concert. As I worked that job for several years, there were many other acts to appear, but I was not a big fan of those acts. This post was edited by NYAD at November 23, 2022 10:00 PM MST

Funny you mentioned her -- unlike what I just wrote to Randy D, Midler is my prime example of preferring her 'live'/'in concert' recordings to her studio recordings . After seeing her in concert myself, I realize how ALIVE and wonderful she is with an audience.  :)

The last time I went back home to visit I attended a recital at my alma mater.  I see live performances most every week when I visit where my mother lives.  They have happy hour on Friday afternoon with live music as well as wine, beer, soda, and snacks.  Most of the groups consist of middle aged people who were in a recording group in their younger life.  My area has many of these groups.........this area has a high retiree population.  I never knew old people could get so rowdy.

Suzi is 72. She hasn't got the scream any more, but still has the growl. And throws the bass around like a toy.

If you mean a famous entertainer's 'live' concert,

    Howard Jones

He was great again (like he was the previous three times I've seen him in concert).

"Alice Cooper" has referred to the individual rather than the band for more than 40 years.

    I know. You're right.
But I guess I somehow still want to recognize the other people with him since I like all parts of the music.

I bet you're right. In general, I tend not to like to go to concerts but Alice Cooper is enticing for sure. :)
