So you hate Boomers but you like The Beatles?

I am getting really miffed at age discrimination in our culture and what goes around comes around! For you!

    Hi CosmicWunderkind,
You know what? I have NEVER kept straight in my mind all the nicknames of generations -- boomers, millennials, etc. To be blunt, I've found such names stupid and I care nothing about categorizing everyone. I'm open to anyone and their music, all ages are good to me.   :)

EDIT: Oh, and here's my favorite Beatles song  :

Yes!  Generational labels are the dumbest thing ever!  The only people who really embrace them are news media people and marketers which are two of the most eye-roll-worthy professions.

Is there any real way to relax BTW Livvie?

Adjustment disorder with mixed disturbance of emotions and conduct

Symptoms linked to this type of adjustment disorder include depression, anxiety, and behavioral problems.

    Adjustment disorder unspecified

Those diagnosed with adjustment disorder unspecified have symptoms that aren’t associated with the other types of adjustment disorder. These often include physical symptoms or problems with friends, family, work, or school.

I like a lot of Beatles songs but I don’t hate people born between 1946 and 1964, nor do I hate people who were born in 1964 who had parents who were born in 1946 who are somehow members of the same generation.  My parents, aunts and uncles were all born between 1946 and 1964 and I love them.

I'm a lesser person than you, though; they all blend into one confusing group of adjectives about sets of years of which I can't keep straight.
I'm thinking Baby Boomers, though ,was the high rise in births after some set of time in USA -- a war, maybe.

Baby Boomers are 1946 to 1964.  Generation X is 1965 to 1980.  The millennials are 1981 to 1996.  Umm yeah, I actually had to look it up to get the years.  Ahem, I also had to look it up to figure out how to spell millennial.  I got it wrong on the first three tries so I kept getting that red line under it.  lol, I didn’t even know how to spell my own generation.   It’s that unimportant to me.

Anyway, did you know it’s possible for a Millennial to be older than a Generation Xer?  It’s true!  Someone born on 1981-01-01 at 00:01 in New York is a Millennial even though they’re older than a Gen Xer who was born in Los Angeles on 1980-12-31 at 23:59.

I’ll bet you didn’t know that!

Good question. Whatever my parents’ (born in 1928 and 1931) generation is called, following The Greatest Generation, those who fought in WWII.

Well, thanks a bunch. I've never heard that. Now I have a "label" too. And, I've never heard discouraging words about "The Silent Generation". I wonder why I never thought to look it up myself...

Maybe you never heard discouraging words about the Silent Generation because they really were the silent generation.  The Baby Boomers on the other hand, at least the ones in media who embrace the label, are pretty full of themselves and just don’t know when to shut up.

Gen X here. Remember for every millennial that hates a boomer, there's a generation between that hates you both ... This post was edited by Slartibartfast at August 3, 2023 3:43 PM MDT
