What’s something weird about your family that other people would have a hard time believing?

Mom!  There’s a hailstorm coming!

*moves Mom’s car out of the garage*

*puts his own car into the garage*

Yes, that really happened.

My Ukrainian Grandmother had connections with the Ukraine mob and she did a lot of illegal stuff.  But she drew the line at pimps making money from woman (bless her heart). Sometimes when we were kids and we had been good all week she would take us pimp hunting in Detroit. Her and her brother would cruise around and when they saw a pimp they would stop at a red light - jump out of the car and beat the crap out of the pimp. Cheers and happy weekend This post was edited by Nanoose at January 15, 2023 11:00 AM MST

I was just thinking that the pimp hunting thing wasn't so weird because we got to play games like normal kids out for a Sunday drive. Like we would say I spy something with my little eye that is purple and green - a pimp daddy (pimps wore a lot of purple and green clothing back in those days). Cheers and happy weekend!

Oh no! My family and extended family are all perfectly normal, law abiding citizens...

My mom’s mom’s side of the family is the rowdy side of the family.  The other sides of my family are mostly normal with a few outliers.

The cousin who put his mom’s car outside in a hailstorm so he could put his own car in the garage is also remembered for getting arrested in the driveway for DUI before Thanksgiving Dinner.  He pulled into the driveway and hit another car already parked there.

Normal is a horrible word. What does it even mean and by whose standards?

By the standard I used for this question, normal would mean not getting in fist fights at a holiday dinner or getting arrested at a holiday dinner.

After 63 years on the planet and war vets from father to brother, I have had a dense dose of Catholicism, physicist talking, drugs and drink, arguing and infighting, bad friends, music freak OCD, ...
My dirty oldest brother who is a draggard about things told me nobody could ever match your excess knowledge about what can get you high n'chit. A self admitted dirty drunk.

This reminded me of my brother. When we were teens we watch a movie called Alice. The movie was based on the song White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. The movie turned me off from ever getting into hard drugs but it made my brother start to crave hard drugs. I find it weird that sometimes the same thing can have 2 totally different effects on people. Cheers!

I was in 7th grade and I remember a girl kid holding up the Go Ask Alice book In class downtime in1972.

Was the movie Alice based on a book? I always assumed it was based on the Jefferson Airplane  song. Anyway this might sound like bragging but when I sing I can achieve the same reverb type of sound like Mama Cass often did. I have to give a bunch of light karate chops to my vocal cords to achieve the sound but if I was singing White Rabbit and you closed your eyes you would think Mama Cass was in the house. Cheers!

You know, the book was release in 1972 and made a movie if in 73 and that is a verifiable fact. Grace Slick later in life lost it and pulled a shotgun out on a person later on but not using it tho. I bought a ticket to Jefferson Starship in Beverly but it was too far to go to decided by some reason about 2014. Long train ride. Bad weather. Paul Kantnor was already passed away too. I guess it was Grace Slick not Mama Cass. I love Grace Slicks singing voice sometimes I think it might even be better then Patti Smith's singing voice. Cheers! This post was edited by Nanoose at January 31, 2023 10:16 PM MST

    May, many moons ago when my family lived in what is now the Ukraine;

My GGG(I think 3) Grandparents were the victims of a home invasion by the Russians.  They robbed then tied them up on chairs and set the house on fire.  A couple hauling a load of straw on a cart was passing by on the road, saw the house on fire and saved GP from sure death or I would not be here. I remember something about the wife being murdered and his next wife was my direct descendant.
A relative was a Senator.  The other side of my family has a colorful past as well.  One served in the Civil war, another was involved in a Ok corral type of shoot out.  My sister is the one who keeps the family flame alive, she knows all the history and details.

Ugh.  It’s too bad the country of Ukraine just can’t pack up and move to get away from its next door neighbor like individual people can.

My grandpa said the Russians regularly raided, pillaged and robbed the people, he hated them, said they are mean people.
This was prior to 1910 when he left.

That's about the time my grandparents left Russia, too. They were Jewish and especially vulnerable.
