The mother of a 6-year-old boy who shot a teacher at a Virginia school in January has been charged criminally in connection with the case, authorities said Monday.

Deja Taylor, 25, of Newport News, is facing one felony count of child neglect and one misdemeanor count of recklessly leaving a firearm so as to endanger a child. The weapon the boy used belonged to Taylor, authorities have said.

Let's hope the trend continues.  Another set of parents are going to trial in Michigan.  I'm not saying parents are always liable, but sometimes it's readily apparent.

Correct - sometimes parents are not to blame, but when it is clear that they haven't secured the weapon properly so that a child can easily get hold of it, they should be held responsible to the fullest extent of the law.
