Do many people reject science because it is not directly happening in front of them?

I think a lot of people reject science for two reasons:  (1) they are ignorant and (2) the facts are too frightening for them to admit.

Yes some people reject science because it is not happening directly in front of them. And some people reject science because of something that is directly in front of them like Donald J Trump. He told people that globule warmer is fake even though science shows otherwise. He also told people not to trust the science behind covid and the covid vaccine. Bet if he told his supporters that the world is flat they would believe him even though science could prove it is not. Cheers!

My wife used to call me a hoe but not because I was sleazy. It was because  I could dig a hole faster then a backhoe with my hand shovel. So you won't have to wait too long - maybe sometime this afternoon. Cheers! This post was edited by Nanoose at July 18, 2023 6:04 PM MDT

It is a real disgrace about Robert Kennedy Junior too. I thought he was a coolo but obviously not if his family is dissing and GOP praising him for his insane remark over calling covid meant as a racial and ethnic cleanser. Go back to doing pushups JFK Jr! You are a disgrace to your family name and your insane anti-vaccine stance. Too much. I'm too much like everybody's a pain in the ass because I am too leaning a little Hells Angel in outlook.

I did not believe in man made global warming long before Trump was in politics.

So you haven't changed your mind despite yearly disasters across the globe. It seems scientists must have been able to predict them accurately long ago, then, instead of saying our climate is in a worse state than anticipated, because of what we're doing to it.

Denial when it shows something unpleasant to them, such as possibly losing some aspect of life they take for granted.

Ignorance coupled with a fear of being proven wrong.

Denial when it goes against some deeply-held belief - with same fear of being wrong.

Denial on political or commercial grounds.

Distrust when scientific knowledge is taken by a government to help formulate policy or regulations.
