What do you think about Ron DeSantis's new theory about slavery?

DeSantis resonantly defended a new set of academic standards  in his state that will require middle schools to teach that enslaved people "developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit".

I think Ron should put on his white go-go boots to protect him from cottonmouth snakes and go pick cotton for a few years while being whipped and see if he changes his mind. Cheers!

They learned to run fast, how to cook with very little food, they understand the true meaning of freedom.

I think Ron DeSantis is an embarrassment to humanity and a prime example of the need for birth control. This post was edited by Spunky at July 25, 2023 5:06 PM MDT

Well when he said it the crowd cheered so Ron DeSantis isn't the only prime example of the need for birth control. The crazy part is that maybe by him saying it - it increased his chances in winning the persistency. Cheers!

Yes, there are quite a few of his constituents that agree with his warped opinion.  Unless Trump is out of the running, I don't think DeSantis has a chance.

I really don't care enough to see what he actually said.....but I am sure it was not where close to what Harris claimed.

    DeSantis:

    • "They're probably going to show that some of the folks that eventually parlayed, you know, being a blacksmith into doing things later in life," DeSantis said at a press conference.

Because you know how in demand blacksmiths are in today's world.

Blacksmith RacePercentages White 69.1% Hispanic or Latino 12.2% Asian 9.6% Black or African American 5.0%

The Bureau of Labor Statistics categorizes blacksmiths as part of the Metal and Plastic Machine Workers industry, a field that is expected to decline at a rate of -13% between the years 2014 and 2024.

The topic was slaves back then...not sure why you switched it "today's world" but there are still jobs in that field, as you posted.

There would have been a lot of demand at the time period in question.

Forced labor, human trafficking and forced marriages are considered slavery and involve millions of people worldwide today, hundreds of thousands in this country.

Yes there are, but we both know that type of slavery is not the topic of the speech or the question.

Did he mention how they all got a free boat ride to America with guaranteed employment and room and board?

Possibly, but the real draw was that the women learned to make pancakes.

Not to mention they had a lock on the cotton-picking job market.

That, too and I'll bet you there weren't any white folks allowed to wash their clothes on the rocks either.
