One thing has nothing to do with the other.

Tell that to the Dems and Biden.  But we agree, (twice in one week...) one should not have anything to do with the other.

Agreeing twice in one week is a record for us. :)

I understand why it is common to combine emergency funding requests, but in this particular case, I think Biden should reconsider if he wants the FEMA funds to be approved quickly. The Republicans are likely to hold those funds hostage. This request also includes funds for border security and perhaps that should not be tied to FEMA either.

Republicans are the ones asking for the unanimous vote to fund FEMA....this funds immediately without going their committee etc.

It is the Dems refusing to pass it unanimously, specifically Dem Sen. Tammy Duckworth of IL.  Insisting be tied to Ukraine funding.

Yes, I  know. As I said, unless Dems take out Ukraine,  it won't pass. This post was edited by Jane S at September 3, 2023 7:18 PM MDT

It is not the Reps holding the funds hostage.  They are willing to vote for a clean funding bill. As introduced by Rick Scott.

No.  If FEMA is running out of money for taking care of US then the trillions flowing to other countries need to be curbed.  It need not take years to do it.  And a tax is not the answer.

Anything they tell you, a new tax is needed to fund is something they do not care about.

Sure it should. As well as fund raising from the Boy Scouts of America - the Girl Scouts of the United States of America and all the other organizations that have the words "of America" in their name.

When Ukraine sends the Russian troops back to Russia with their Mukluks between their legs - the Cold War will be over because it will show the World that Russia is not the all mighty army that they like to have the World believe.

    Cheers!

Not over, just changed. China has been Àmerica's main rival for over thirty years - and unlike the former Soviet Union, China is doing it economically as well as militarily. The USSR was a military superpower, but it's economy wasn't significant in Weltpolitick, being reliant on a single commodity (petroleum) for income. Russia is broke. China, on the other hand, has been building a global superhighway in return for extraterritorial concessions. I wonder how many recipients of the belt and road system bothered to read the fine print?
