Absolutely not.  I had to set my VPN to Germany, create a new gmx.de email address and use it to open a new Instagram account just to use Instagram because Instagram went full on stupid after the 2020 election and turned off the search function for USA users. Millions of people in the US, including certain AMers, went full on stupid after the 2020 election as well.

Wow that is a lot of hoops to jump through there.  All of the big tech went crazy with censorship before and definately after 2020 election. Then all the covid stuff.

Isn’t the true reason that you’re hiding from Randy D and you know how close he is to catching you? Grrrrrrrrrr.

They should unless they have a cool nickname like me. And if they do they should use that name. Real names are not necessary for national security – if a person is deemed a threat to national security their location and real name can be found regardless of what name they are using on the Internet. Cheers!

Not for social media accounts public information.  Some of them do require that registration include real name.  I don't know how or if that is enforced.  Facebook tried to tell me once that I had to upload my government ID.  What a laugh!!!!!

Yeah, they pulled that with my husband as well. Fb accused him of being a bot because he did not post anything on his personal page. He only used a business (charity) page.  But nope, FB is not getting ID or credit card info etc. They closed his account.

Why, and how would it be enforced?

Nikki Haley is proposing such a plan. Most things are enforced via gov regulations and fines.
She claims it would cause people to be nicer online if they were forced to use their real name.

Have you seen the fights people get into on Facebook? Names are not helping there.  But in any case, it is NOT the government's job to try and enforce people being polite.

    True.

While I am not on Facebook, I have seen plenty on here and other platforms.

I was pointing out that using one's real name does not necessarily make them behave better online.

Why, so the government can track us and our views more easily? That's a hard no from me.

Yep, that is exactly what the end goal would be.  Something political, we agree on....imagine that. :)

That's the thing. Who wants to be themselves on the internet. 95% of the time, people can be whom ever they want to be when no one can see your face. The internet is used for that very thing..............apparently.
