It depends on the weapon he is carrying. If it is a firearm, I get the hell out of the house and run like hell. (I do not own a firearm.) If it is a bladed weapons, I bust head with one of my walking canes, or perhaps my axe if I can get to it.
I always try to keep a plan for that fresh in mind. The only time it appeared that I had an intruder I went limp and fell to the ground. The feet I saw turned out to be my husband trying to scare me. He was hiding but his feet were visible. He felt awful and I felt disappointed in my ability to stay conscious to protect myself. I was about 24 years old; hopefully I would be more capable now. I keep a crowbar by the bed at night.
If I had a gun, I'd shoot him, assuming he or she came in with the intent of violence. I don't have a gun but if I did I'd have no trouble at all pulling the trigger. Once they get the upper hand, there's nothing you can do if you are not protected, you could wake up dead tomorrow morning. lol
Of the two of us, I believe I'd be the protector in that regard, it would just come automatically. I would protect him with my life if necessary, hope I don't ever have to prove it though.

I live in an apartment building. All of our doors are steel and I have two locks, one of which is a deadbolt. The only other way to get in would be the fire escape window on which I have an alarm, so I would be warned in advance. If he had a gun, I probably would be at his mercy. Anything else could probably be handled with the bowling pin I have.
I would have to call the police to have them fill out a report and remove the body of the armed intruder from my house. I’d also have to call a disaster cleaning service to clean up the blood and any other pieces that might have gone flying across the room.
