Are fireworks on New Year's Eve a common thing where you live?

I have always lived in the Midwest (S IL and MO) I have never heard a firework on New Year's Eve.  
I have heard people on the internet, on TV and in movies talk about it. 

Is it that common?

    I thought everybody had fireworks at midnight on New Year’s.

    Yes.  Every year, we go to watch the fireworks display at midnight.  Also every year, my kids sleep through the display.  They never do a good job of staying awake no matter how much they ask to stay up late.

    Oh Lordy, where I now live is in the county, no incorporation.  The Sheriff doesn't worry about fireworks and the people here are nuts for them.  This year people even shot them on Christmas Eve.  I called and complained about that. On New Years Eve it started as soon as it got dark and went to around 1AM.  People who live in this area all seem to have tranquilizers for their pets.  That made me laugh.

    I’ve never seen fireworks on Christmas Eve but here celebrating with fireworks on New Year’s Eve is normal.  I saw them at another time of the year once.  My2cents would probably appreciate this and every other AM user would probably cringe about this, but after Election Day in 2016 when the last state was called for Donald Trump, a couple of my neighbors put on a full fireworks display at about 1:30 in the morning.

    It was just one clan doing it on Christmas Eve.  My gut when I talked to the sheriff's office is that they will not allow that in the future.  They usually make a statement in the local paper prior to these holidays to remind people what they will tolerate in the way of fireworks.  Usually that is most anything.  But I could tell they didn't like it on Christmas Eve.   Normally it's an hours long thing on July 4 and NYE.  On July 4 the county does a big fireworks show around 10:00 and people keep it up into the AM.

    We took my dog the fireworks show (July 4th). He did not mind. Even watched some.

    Periodically, sometimes for no apparent reason, firecrackers are lit in my neighborhood.  New Year's Eve, however, someone in the area sent up the kind of fireworks that you would see at a professional event.  I've seen those kinds of fireworks at Macy's celebrations.  They were beautiful, but I was more concerned that in such a densely populated area, sparks could conceivably start a fire.  They were not set off over a body of water and could easily have landed on the roof of a home.  Fortunately, they were over in less than half an hour.     No New Year's Eve fireworks here.  Instead, we get LOTS of gun fire, cannon fire, and some (illegal) firecrackers (starts around 8 pm and lasts until about 2 am).
