Funny, that's where I got bitten. I stepped out of the car and before I knew it, they were around my ankles. Fortunately, I was able to get them off fairly quickly, but some of them got me.
I have, but just single bites, not a swarm of them. A single bite is quite painful, so I can't imagine having hundreds at once. I turned out to be deathly allergic. My body swelled up like a balloon and I went into anaphylaxis. When I heard the ER doctor running toward me, I knew I was in trouble. Obviously, it all turned out well, but I have a healthy respect for biting/stinging insects.
Perhaps it's secret message to the Starship Enterprise..."beam me up Scotty," that sort of thing, someone trying to flee from the gigantic, awful wildlife on their planet. You just never know..now do you.
