Never. Not only does that amount of lithium have a nasty habit of spontaneously combusting (it IS an alkali metal after all - same family as potassium), it's an UGLY vehicle.

It's beyond ugly - it's atrocious.  I also seems to have trouble starting in cold weather.

Apparently there are studies that show that EV's catch fire less often than gas or diesel powered vehicles. I am not convinced. I heard that the batteries catch fire when they are flooded with saltwater such as from a hurricane. There have been a lot of reports of scooters and other lithium battery vehicles catching fire while being charged as well as cellphones and laptops burning on airplanes.

The last I heard about the Las Vegas incident was that it was being investigated as a possible terrorist attack.

And yes, that car looks like it was built for a soapbox derby.

When I was living in NYC, there were almost daily reports of fires attributed to lithium-ion batteries.  When they ignite, they explode, so you don't even have time to get a fire extinguisher or throw a blanket over it.  In fact, they were talking about banning battery powered bikes and scooters in our co-op building.  They tell you to never go to sleep with your cell phone or computer plugged in all night.

Yes, the Las Vegas incident is likely a terrorist attack.  They said there doesn't seem to be a correlation between that attack and the one in New Orleans, but there are several similarities.

No! A cybertruck is about the only thing about Musk, uglier than his politics.

    Nope, they are ugly.

But the explosion was caused by a homemade bomb with fireworks and camping fuel. And the death was only the driver in the the truck who made the bomb.

I would not. I, too, find them terribly ugly.  (Terrible events lately, too.)

I would love to buy an Edsel car, though. Like I've said numerous times, the Edsel is my favorite car.

You would need to buy two of them - one for parts which are absolutely unavailable.

Yeah, I know you'd be correct. I admit I'm happy just looking at them -- I love the way they look - - always have loved their styles. I exaggerated a bit saying I'd like to actually buy one, ha. :)

That looks like one of the old muscle cars of my youth.  It never was a hit, though.

In case you were replying to my answer --  I knew the Edsels were never a hit.  Doesn't surprise me at all - - so many things in my life that I adore, the rest of the world declares not-so-good. Happens all the time in music. authors, books, movies, colors (my favorite color since a young child has always been brown), weather (as many answerMuggers probably know -- I love cloudy gray overcast weather) - - and cars.  :)

And it often goes the opposite way, too  - -things most people love in those same categories --  I tend not to like. :)

I've never believed you have to follow the crowd.  Nothing wrong with having different likes and dislikes.

    Yes, true. :)
I'm glad I've always enjoyed my tastes, regardless of where they've fit within larger society.

    Thanks.
I fail to sometimes realize how strong I am as an individual. Often, it takes others to help me see it in me. Thank you. :)

Not even if I could afford it!  Who in their right mind wants to drive around in what looks like a rolling dumpster?  (so when a cyber-truck's batteries explode do they refer to it as a dumpster fire?).

Worse. A dumpster fire can usually be extinguished with water. Not so a  BeV. Water makes a lithium fire worse and foam doesn't work either. The quantity of DCP required makes fighting that kind of fire uneconomic, so the SOP is to protect the exposures and let it burn.
Electric cars will probably be the way of the future, but not BATTERY Electric until some boffin finds a way to make graphene cheaply. In the meantime,  hydrogen fuel cells are a better idea. Range is effectively unlimited (refuelling takes minutes rather than hours), the vehicle is lighter, a much smaller quantity of lithium is required and the only emission is plain water. I know.  They had to close down the entire interstate south of here for hours several months ago when an electric vehicle caught fire, as they had no way to put out the fire.

I agree, although some day electric vehicles will be the way to go, right now our technology can't safely (and economically) support them.
