The expression "as right as rain" likely originated in the UK in the 19th century. It cannot be determined exactly where, but it was first recorded in print in the 1890s. The expression was applied in a 1894 article to describe a man in good health. This post was edited by Zack at January 24, 2025 9:45 PM MST

Beautiful. It is certain a British bon mot. You'll be right as rain soon I'm sure of it.

A bon mot is a witty statement, or a very well-chosen word. The most popular guest at a party is probably the one who keeps everyone chuckling with his bons mots. In real life, we often come up with a bon mot long after a conversation is over — it's the perfect response, or the most charming way to express something.
