Maybe those are reciprocal tariffs – so if they seem like silly tariffs Trump was silly first. Cheers!

They are tariffs put in place by Canada not the US.

Manatees should be protected in any case, they're threatened. If the US economy depends on flamethrowers, how did they get to be an economic superpower?
This is Canada taking the p!ss.

I checked the Canadian governments site for the list of US goods Canada has put tariffs on and didn’t find flame throwers or those other things on it. But as far as looking like a joke goes Trump has put 25% tariffs on high grade aluminum while claiming that America doesn't need anything from Canada. America doesn't have high grade aluminum ore in the ground so they can’t produce high grade aluminum. But they do need it for many things and Americans will now have to buy it at 25% more – so it is Trump that looks like a joke. Cheers!

I gave you the link the Canadian news who is reporting it.

If CA does not want tariffs on aluminum, then they need to remove the tariff Canada put on imports of US metals...aluminum included.  The tariff on aluminum was reciprocal.

Context, context.  Did you fail to mention that these high tariffs apply only AFTER an import quota has been reached for a specific exporter.  Either tell the whole story or don't tell any of it.

He knows....he is from CA and we have had the conversation before....and if the quotas are to prevent US trade then it is NOT free trade.  And they deserve whatever tarriffs we send back.

    You know what's a joke?

"According to the Trump administration’s list, it will be imposing a 10% reciprocal tariff on the Heard and McDonald Islands—an external Australian territory a little less than 1,000 miles north of Antarctica.

According to an informational guide to the islands on an Australian government website, they are considered to be “one of the wildest and remotest places on Earth.”

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/news/trump-imposes-tariffs-on-uninhabited-heard-and-mcdonald-islands-remotest-places-on-earth/ar-AA1CbirE?ocid=BingNewsSerp

One island is uninhabited and the other is inhabited by penguins only.  So, how much importing/exporting do you think those penguins engage in?

Heard Island can't be inhabited, it's home to our only active volcano. Mawson Peak.
Remember that game you played as a kid, "the floor is lava"? Penguins don't play that game. This post was edited by Slartibartfast at April 3, 2025 4:45 PM MDT

It is making sure AU does not try to use that address as a loophole to get around the tariffs.....

What address?  They are UNINHABITED islands.  Do you understans what uninhabited mean?  NO ONE LIVES THERE OTHER THAN PENGUINS AND OTHER WILDLIFE.

Again, it stops a potential loophole.

Heard Island is an active volcano and it and McDonald Island are both environmentally interdicted. Only researchers are allowed to go there and the procedure to get a permit takes years - and building on them is utterly prohibited. No loopholes, it's actually impossible to trade from or through them.
There's also a "reciprocal tariff" on Chagos Island. Yeah, he sure showed those Chagos Islanders! Do you know who lives there? US Navy personnel and nobody else! This post was edited by Slartibartfast at April 5, 2025 12:55 AM MDT

They. Are. Taking. The. Piss. Canadians, Australians and Brits understand and appreciate that kind of humour, Yanks don't.
The Canadian government doesn't need to impose reciprocal tariffs, the population is hitting back with grass roots action. Boycotts. Just about nobody will having a vacation in the US (the tourism sector is already screaming about mass cancellations) and they're refusing to buy "Made in USA". Liquor stores are pulling Jack Daniel's from the shelves because they can't move it.

As I said it is a joke.
CA liquor stores are run by the gov....that is why they are pulling the JD etc.

They are licensed to sell liquor by the gov. Finis. The gov doesn't run them, or control stock other than preventing the sale of liquor that is more than 50% ABV (JD and most commercial spirits are between 35 and 40). Liquor licensing is mostly to ensure that nobody is avoiding the excise (taxes on alcohol are levied everywhere, including the USA), and also to ensure that the drinks are fit for consumption and not sold to minors (u18 in most places, u21 in the US). In places where the trade is unregulated  (or the regulations aren't policed), people die - like the two young Australian women who were poisoned by tainted liquor in Laos recently. We license the sale of liquor in Australia too, but it's run but the state governments rather than the Federal which is why the rules vary from State to State - they're quite different in NSW, where I lived for the first 20 years of my life, from SA where I live now.

The Canadian stores are pulling JD, Beam and other US brands because Canadians stopped buying them. The bottles were sitting there collecting dust so the store owners put the shelf space to better use displaying stock they can actually sell. That is what one of the Canadian members here told me.
They can boycott or buy it. It will not stop the tariffs until they decide to stop the fentanyl and practice real free trade.

A grand total of 50lb of Fentanyl came in via Canada. TONS of illicit drugs found their way into Canada from the US.
It's made in China and either comes in via Mexico or direct from the manufacturers, hidden in shipments of Chinese goods. It is NOT Canada's fault nor Canada's problem, so let's stop  the Trumpian BS, all right?
Canada's quota system hasn't been exceeded since Trump HIMSELF signed off on USMCA. Ergo there wasn't a single tariff on anything from the US in five years. His deal. Signed by him.
Trump doesn't like Canada because Trudeau is far better looking than he is (not difficult, His Royal Orangeness has less sex appeal than an airplane crash) and Melania flirted with him when they visited Canada. No suggestion of marital infidelity on her part (unlike Trump who boinked a porn star whole she was giving birth to his son), but she did flirt playfully and her husband decided he needed to engage in a metaphorical d**k measuring contest (his Mario Kart mushroom would lose a real one). Pure, green eyed, 100% proof jealousy. This post was edited by Slartibartfast at April 4, 2025 9:17 PM MDT
